Welcome to ARISE, where whisky is more than just a drink – it’s an immersive journey through time, tradition, and craftsmanship. We invite you to follow the progress of the first wood-fired Scotch whisky in living memory. Every few months, we’ll dip into the cask together and explore the intimate lifecycle of Scotch, as it transforms from the raw, malty essence of new make spirit to the wood-caressed character of young Scotch.
The Casks
Eleven American quarter casks were filled by the first wood fired New Make Spirit earlier this year. They are dedicated to our Journey to Wood Fired Scotch – part of the Wood Fire Revolution. A Journey through taste, time and building a new way of making Scotch whisky.
It’s a huge and exciting part of our development as a new distillery. Blazing the trail in a long-forgotten method of production, we would love you to join us.
ARISE invites you on an extraordinary journey to witness whisky’s evolution and revolution, firsthand. Follow the maturation of wood-fired spirit from the first casks ever filled at Moffat Distillery. Over 36 months and eight releases, experience a privilege usually reserved for distillers. With only 500 spaces for Torchbearers, this rare opportunity culminates in a 70cl bottle of the world’s first wood-fired Scotch.
The Journey
The Journey begins with New Make Spirit: the clear, pure spirit produced from the finest Scottish barley. The spirit from wood fired stills is lively, rich and offers a spectrum of flavours. From there, every six months we will bottle one of the 11 casks to capture the characteristics as the spirit ages. A series of seven 20cl bottles will help to tell that story, the final being captured at the moment it becomes “Single Malt Scotch Whisky” at age three years and one day.
The Wood Fired Scotch
The journey doesn’t end there – the final bottle of ARISE is the first 70cl bottle, to be drawn from a blend of the remaining 11 casks to reveal just how the character and flavours blossom into a Single Malt Wood Fired Scotch. The first of its kind.
